Myself and young Rick Roberts are meeting at Butlers in Croydon at 6.15 for a couple of hours of off-road action. If anyone fancies joining in, see us there

Would love to but illness pie eating and general lack of riding is putting me off and i don't fancy getting dropped on one of your wonderful tours of dodgy south london commons....
this may change in the next few hours however.

I'd steer clear of anything labelled "illness pie" matt, that may well be your problem.

Can't make it this week but will hopefully make it one week before the great halloween frightener. Have fun - it's pretty wet and grim out there. Perfect!

Couple of hours???!! Action!!? Oh crikey.
Some of my regular wednesday night punters in south norwood country park are going to be disappointed.
Just off to bake an illness pie...

Well that was fun. More like tri training - bike, run, swim. I went through a puddle that came up to my wheel axles. Twisty tracks at speed with minimal visibility. Looking forward to next week.

Yes, very good fun if slightly hair raising at times. My light was illuminating the rain just in front of the bulb far better than it was the ground i was actually trying to look at. Still, good fun and suprisingly no crashes or mechanicals.

Utter muddness! Incidentally, what lights were you using? - figuring simple leds aren't going to be too great for scary cross training!! Xx

Man i feel gutted to have missed this. No more pie for Matt! illness flavour or otherwise. (by the way even the missus laughed at this thread which is amazing - not because she is humourless but because its about bikes). I really want to give this a go! Would a strong LED light do or are you using more powerful stuff? will this do? bit.ly/4q7goP

David do you always put kisses on the end of your posts, or just for Rick and Andy?

Hmmm. Kisses. How sweet.
I've gone into complete overkill on the lighting front. I've got two sets of hope 2 led lights - one on my bars and the other on my helmet. I can see reasonably well. I reckon you might need a bit more light than the cateye, but that depends on how scary you want to make it for yourself. Basically, the more the better - light that is, not scariness.
The light on my helmet is particularly good for blinding the man in my local Costcutter when I call in to collect my recovery drink.

I'd suggest you steer clear of the single shot plus - I had one last winter. granted it's got good light, but it's far too heavy for the cateye clip. Mine lasted less than a week before the plastic in the bottom of the casing fell apart. I ended up getting a blackburn x8 set as evans were selling them for £100, haven't seen them that low since though.
