I don't know what anyone else calls this turbo drill but I call it Biggie Smalls and it's a good one for early-mid base training. This drill is one of my favourites. It goes like this:
1 min @ 60rpm cadence in the highest gear you can manage it, followed by 1 min @ 100+ rpm in a small gear. Repeat 10 times to make a 20 minute set. Warm up, do one set, ride easy for 5-10mins, do another set, then warm down.
If you can't help going over 60rpm, then raise the gear or the resistance. If 100+rpm is too easy then increase the revs, not the gear.
The idea is too match leg strength and leg speed. Midway through the second set you should be cryin' for your mama. If not, pedal harder...
