Rubbish!
Andy has been ill all week and didn't race so I went up on my own. It started badly as I promptly ripped off my rear mech halfway round on my first warm-up lap.
For the race I was down to one muddy bike after using it to finish warming up on so there was no need for a pit crew (good job I didn't have one). After my disaster with the first bike I really didn't expect one bike to last the whole race in the claggy mud that was there. I was gridded quite far back and spent quite a bit of time stuck behind other riders but I was starting to make steady progress passing riders ahead of me until with 2 laps to go I started to think that maybe the bike would survive. That was the kiss of death, at the same spot on the course I ripped the first rear mech off I ripped the mech off of my race bike. It was a particularly muddy section and I'd started to get more confidence that I could ride it rather than run it. That was probably my mistake as riding that section caused so much mud to get caught up in mech. So there you go, one DNS, a DNF and two unridable bikes.
Having moaned about that I did enjoy it in a funny kind of way, the course was very compact with some good off camber banks and tight corners. Great for spectators and riders alike. Bring on Bradford in December.

Bradford will see you right Kevin, don't worry. We know how to treat our cyclists up north.

Simon Burney (cyclo cross bigwig and author) said this on Twitter:
SimonBurney Good day to be a derailleur hanger salesman at Mallory; never seen so many broken mechs. Hopefully wont have to go there again, crap venue.

Bad luck Kevin. I'm sure you'll get a good result in the next one.

Oh dear. Long way to go to suffer a mechanical - bad luck.
I was heading back from Manchester having been to Revolution the night before and driving back down on Sunday had toyed with the idea of stopping to give you and Andy a cheer. No offence, but having reading the posts I'm sort of glad I didn't..
