Out on Sunday only 2 of us, for an afternoon blast round the summer chain gang route(just prior to Beddlestead). A lunatic in an Audi drove straight at Ian and I. I was sent to the ground landing on my thick skull saved me from any serious injury.Whilst extracting myself from the nearby hedgerow a kiwi cyclist appeared from the same direction as the offending car he had suffered a similar fate by having a car door opened on him by the same vehicle.
Lets all be careful out there! Its scary sometimes how crazy people can be.

Did you report the incident to the police? Idiots like this really have to be stopped before they kill someone. I seem to remember that someone posted something about a similar incident a while ago in the same vicinity. There are some crazy people around. You'd think, at least, the driver might have had some concerns about scratching their car.
Another incident, though not so frightening, on the Sunday ride today, happened to Sean McN. Sean had to do an emergency stop, crashing to the ground and damaging his bike in the process, when a jogger ran out in front of him near Elmers End. The jogger kept on running, not even checking if Sean was OK. Sean was OK, but he was bruised and shaken.

It was on the pelican, I know we were going through the lights as they changed to amber then there was a shout and Sean ended up on the deck and some choice Anglo-Saxon ensued. Although she stopped for a brief time I think possibly the lady jogger was a little intimidated by the size of our group of blokes and made off sharpish as she was a bit scared.

the lights were on amber. anyone at the front of the group should be aware of impending junctions/lights or situations where the pace could be comprimised. this was not the case in this situation.

I was right in front of the group and closest to her; saw her approach the lights (headphones on, back to us), press the button and proceed to cross without looking or waiting for the lights to change. I managed to shout and hold my ground as there were cyclists beside and behind me. She stopped but someone must have braked or swerved, and that's all it takes. Sean landed on his back and broke about half his spokes on one side of his front wheel.

I`d be quite happy to take the lead on the mountain bike...then its just a case of brushing the bits out of the spokes.
