Here's the agenda for next Monday's meeting. Possible changes for next year - a vets/women's separate race Anyone going?
Monday 15th February 2010 7.30pm
Evans Cycles Camino Park James Watt Way Crawley RH10 9TZ
1. Apologies for absence.
2. Minutes of last AGM 26th January 2009.
3. Matters arising
4. Officers’ Reports.
5. Election of Committee Officers. Present holder
Chairman - Glyn Durrant Secretary - Chris Reed (not standing) Treasurer - Kristin Durrant Team Manager – Richard Wood London League Co-ordinator – Richard Wood Sussex League Co-ordinator – Andy Seltzer Public Relations Officer – John Mullineaux Technical Officer - Kelvin Hoy
6. LCCA affiliation fees for 2010-2011.
7. Entry fees for 2010-2011
8. Proposals
1. That the name of the London Cyclo-Cross League be changed to the London and South East Cyclo-Cross League, to better reflect the geographical area that the League covers. (Chris Reed)
2. That a separate 40 minute race be added, for Veterans, Juniors and Women, as many riders are finding the mixed ability fields too large for the courses. (Philip Glowinski) = (Similar Proposal from Allister Tulett)
3. That each event should run a Novices event, in addition to the existing race schedule. (Bill Wright)
4. That the U12s and the U14s rider together, leaving the U10 riders with there own race. (Allister Tulett 5. That LCCA and Beastway go halves (about £4,000 each) on an electronic chip timing system. (Bill Wright)
6. That some form of fund-raising (possibly a raffle at each event) be done, to raise funds for electronic timing equipment. (Allister Tulett)
7. The spreadsheet for entering rider’s details and race results developed by Dave Gerrey be adopted by the league and offered to all organisers to use if they wish.
8. That the South East Area has its own championship and not combined with Eastern. (Glyn Durrant)
9. A.O.B
Notes on Proposals,
1. The present name does not reflect the geographical limits of the League. Few races are held in London, and London actually comes within 3 league areas (London, Eastern and Central).
2. Many riders are finding the mixed ability fields too large for the courses.
3. This would ease the crush in the seniors events, which are now reaching epidemic proportions. Many competitors in these events would prefer to be in a lower paced and more relaxed 'fun' race, and be less likely to have a bad experience of racing caused by a busy event and over-enthusiastic overtaking. This race could be a Go-Race event and incur lower race entry fees and levies.
4. Some of the better U12 riders would like more competition.
5. Basically Beastway would use it in the summer, LCCA in the winter. Each would be responsible for making sure it works fully, prior to the start of the other's series. The timing chips cost about £8 each, so 500 of these will cost about £4,000, and the chip reading hardware about the same. There may be some additional kit such as petrol generator, laptop and maybe a gazebo to keep it dry, which would add to the cost.
6. Self-explanatory
7. “I have produced a spreadsheet to speed up the entry of rider’s details by storing the details of those riders that have previously raced. When they sign on again only their BC number needs to be entered (there is also support for non members). In addition the spreadsheet also has facility for producing a results sheet by entering the final results by rider number or it can calculate the result by entering the lap records. Through liaison with Richard Wood and Paul Tunnel this spreadsheet has now been used at a number of other events this year. I have recently updated it to support the team event and also print the signing on sheets”.
8.. Large fields, as per 2.& 3.

I can't go to this but if anyone else is and wants feedback on the proposals, I'm not wild about the vets and womens race. I know the races are too big as they are, but this sounds a bit like the two would be spearated into an 'upper' and 'lower' league. If there was the option to ride in the main race, I think that would be ok, but I don't like the idea of effectively being relegated to a Go Race.
Had (still having) a long day at work so sorry if this sounds like a bit of a rant!

I'm with you Delia. I'm all for a seperate 'Go Race' event for the slow ones but I want a proper race, and I won't get that racing the vets and the women. The Eastern cross league do it well with two races. 'Elite Vets' do the main race while the slower ones do the 'go race' and it works very well.

One thing that I think should be being changed is the irregularities in prizes for the women's races. I know that the prizes are worked out by the number of entries etc at present but it doesn't look too great when you have prizes handed out for almost the whole top ten in the men's and sometimes the vets and yet only the first woman gets a prize?! Why can't it simply be the top three in each category. What's different about finishing second or third in the women's race to the respective places in the men's?! Right, I'm off to burn my bra... rant over!

I'm going along tonight, will raise the issues brought up here. I'm all for a novices/non-license holder's Go-Race Event and will push for that. I'm giving Phil Glowinski a lift — but only if he agrees to side with me for the Go Race!
Changing the races to reflect ability really makes sense imo, way more than age or gender.

Not really unfortunately! Not a lot was agreed upon even though we were there till gone 10. It was kind of agreed that clubs should be encouraged to promote a 40min go-race non-league event on the same day as their race, possibly in the morning, to cater for newbies/slower riders. Apart from that everything remains pretty much unchanged from our point of view. Entry fees remain the same, as does the league registration fee. That's pretty much it. The committee are going to discuss the possibility of 2 races at a private meeting. Don't think they'll come to any definitive conclusion though.
