Just had this through by email. These studies are always worth participating in if you get the chance. This looks to be aimed more at the racers amongst us but don't let that discourage you from enquiring. You'll gain useful info from the VO2max tests and the whole experience of being a part of a study is always good;
Hi,
I am studying for my masters in Exercise Physiology at Roehampton University and am currently recruiting athletes for my dissertation entitled:
'“THE EFFECTS OF SODIUM BICARBONATE, CAFFEINE & THEIR COMBINATION ON A COMPETITIVE SIMULATED 40KM TIME TRIALâ€Â.
Would it be possible for you to forward this email on to any athletes at your club that may be interested?
Athletes would be required to attend the lab for an initial VO2max assessment and familiarisation session during week 1 of the study. Thereafter we would look to get them into the labs 3/4 additional times, to complete 40km Time Trials under serveral different conditions (i.e., with caffine, with sodium bicarbonate, & with a combination of both) in order to see the optimal solution to increase performance.
In return for participation athletes will get free feedback from the initial VO2max assessment which is a vital physical attribute in endurance sports and would normally cost around £150 to do elsewhere. On top of this I am willing to do another free physiology assessment on completion of the study (July/August) i.e., a retest VO2max, lactate profile, cycling economy, nutritional assessment etc.
Please get in contact with me for more details.
Kind regards
