This just in...
Peglers Alpine Velo Fest 2012
Following on from the ever popular and successful ' Ice Fest's ' we have been running for the last 16 years and sharing the same format, we are for the first time broadening our activity base to include some of
our other passions; and for this fest its time to bring your road bike.
In September this year we will be running our first Peglers Velo Fest based at the same very comfortable gite we use in the winter ‘Le Sardonnier’.which is situated near Bourg de Oisans amongst some of
the most iconic Alpine cols including the Glandon, Lauteret , Telegraph and Galibier not to mention the 21 hairpin bend climb up to Alp d' Huez, surely the Tour de France's most famous and daunting mountain
finish! This is the area that one of Europe's most famous sportives takes place ‘La Marmotte’, linking those cols, with several thousand cyclists taking part in this huge event each summer. We will be
there without the crowds.
If this all seems a bit daunting fear not! Our intention is to have a really enjoyable cycling holiday in a fantastic location where you can come with friends and choose whether you want BRUTAL days
or lazy days (well maybe not lazy but less brutal!)
There is also loads of brilliant mountain biking in the area with over 200km of trails up at Alpe d'Huez including 135km of cross country trails and 130km of downhill so why not chuck your mountain bike in the boot as well?
What we are offering is full board accommodation including a hearty evening meal with wine and beer at the superb house we always stay at...’Le Sardonnier’ - for more details see - www.le-sardonnier.com
The idea is that although this is not a ‘supported’ cycling holiday there will be plenty of opportunities to drop off / pick up / share routes and days with others and we hope to be able to coordinate a couple
of BIG rides with feed stops along the way for those that would like that. There will be secure storage for all bikes up at the gite and a couple of very capable ‘mechanics’ on hand as well.
(there are several local shops with fully equipped workshops for anything major). As with our winter trips people will make their own way to the gite, with their bikes (driving down or flying and hiring a car
at either Lyon or Grenoble which are two hours and an hour and a half away respectively).
Although we know the area very well it is not somewhere we have cycled before so why not come and discover the region with us? Ride, eat, be merry and get the t-shirt! It looks to be a typically epic Peglers trip.
