London 2012 Led Cycle Rides – Call for Volunteers
Volunteer Ride Leaders Needed!
BikeBuddies has been appointed by the Olympic Development Authority to run a series of free led cycle rides to selected 2012 Games venues with the aim of helping ticket holders get to their event by bike.
Each led ride will consist of a Ride Leader, 10 members of the public who have boked a place and an Assistant Ride Leader cycling along routes designed by Sustrans and making use of Greenways and existing cycling infrastructure wherever possible.
Rides are generally timed to start at 7:00am, take 45 mins to an hour and deliver the cyclists to a secure cycle park at the venue for 8:00am. Rides times will vary by venue, subject to event start times. The venues we are serving for the Games are:
Central London
Earls Court – (led ride starts at Kew Gardens)
Horse Guards Parade, (rides start in Peckham and Clapham)
Hyde Park, (rides start at Shepherds Bush)
The Mall (Road Race), (ride starts Finsbury Park)
Outer London
ExCel, (ride starts The Gherkin)
Greenwich Park, (rides start County Hall and Lewisham)
North Greenwich Arena, (rides start Butlers Wharf)
The Olympic Park, (rides start Tower of London, Sadler’s Wells, White Hart Lane, Beckton Alps and Wanstead Park)
UK Venues
Eton Dorney, (rides start Maidenhead Stn)
Lee Valley White Water Centre, (rides start White Hart Lane)
Hadleigh Farm (Mountain Bike), (rides start Canvey Island)
Hampton Court Palace (Time Trial), (rides start Richmond Park)
Richmond Park (Road Race), (rides start Stamford Bridge)
Wimbledon, (rides start Clapham Common)
Weymouth & Portland, (rides start Dorchester)
So, this is your chance to use your cycling skills and local knowledge and become part of the legacy of the 2012 Games! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or want to find out a bit more send an email telling us whereabouts you live and anything else that might help us match you to a route.
You will receive training, an ODA tabard and a whistle! This is a volunteer activity so you will not get paid but you will receive a per diem allowance to cover a drink and a snack. You will need to use your own bike and a number of the routes are off road so may not be suitable for a road bike with slick tyres.
