What goes up must come down, this weekend you can compete both up and down hill – not something you can most weekends.
Firstly, round of applause to Will and Joe for their efforts at the Bec Hill Climb last weekend, Will coming in 7th Junior riding up White Hill in 2.39.5 and Joe in 9th taking just that little bit longer.
This Saturday – 18th October – Dulwich Paragon Hill Climb
Your opportunity to grab the headlines and excel. The concept of a hill climb should be obvious to most, you ride up a hill as fast as you possibly can while being timed, winner is the fastest - simple. This year’s hill is Star Hill, a gentle meandering ascent near the back end of Knockholt
We will be incorporating the event into this week’s road ride, you don’t need any special kit, just your normal road bike. Arrive at the velodrome at 8.45 to leave at 9, we will ride a fairly direct route to the start line, allow those who wish to compete to do so before wending our back to Crystal Palace for approx. 1pm.
If you don’t have a road bike remember we have some brand ones you can borrow, make sure you turn up at 8.45 to allow time for fitting and faffing.
Youths and Juniors from both HHYCC and DP are strongly encouraged to give the event a try, it’s light hearted and fun.
The event is run under Time Trial regulations – you must bring a completed TT style Parents Consent form Attachment Deleted with you to take part.
Part of the ride will be on the road so normal rules apply:
· DP/HHYCC & BC membership required
· Helmets must be worn
· Wear suitable clothing for the season- its getting colder and wetter now
· Bring copious quantities of drink and some food
· Spare inner tubes that fit
· Emergency and nominal entry fee money (you’ll get change from a fiver)
· Telephone number of parent or rescuer on a piece paper
· If this is your first ride a signed parent’s consent form.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- you must be contactable and able to collect your charge should the need arise.
This Sunday-19th October- Dulwich Paragon Hill Descent
This event is equally simple in concept - you start off at the top of a hill and see how far you can go without pedalling, those that travel the furthest win - again simple - it’s all about position on the bike. Remember your pedals are locked at the top of the hill so don’t bring a fixie.
Meet at the velodrome on Sunday morning at 9 am or at the top of Crystal Palace (Cadence) at 9.15 we will ride out toward Godstone. The event will start at 11am (or when we arrive) and conclude once everyone has been down.
Return journey will include a recovery break of tea and cake en route to Crystal Palace and the Velodrome.
Dave Rees is organising the event and has asked me to stress that Skin suits, TT bikes/bars, pointy helmets, pedalling are not allowed during the event and the bike used has to ridden to the event. Normal road rule apply, there is no entry fee and your normal parents consent will be OK.
There is no London League Cross this weekend
Thursday Chain Gangs on the track
For those that missed this evening’s meet, by the way an impressive turnout despite the drizzle– don’t forget these sessions. £3 per evening and you need to bring a signed parents consent form with you on your first ride.
