Herne Hill Youth hat trick in the cross at Frylands
Get the champagne out and toast the 3 winners from last weekend, Billy Bancroft, Joe Blackmore and that Stan Nutlet, all winning in their various categories. Splendid stuff, well done.
But that’s not all, oh no, that young Titouan is rode some very fast laps, although he finished 5th he is only a gnat away from coming in third - perhaps it’s the challenge of beating Mulligan who put in a creditable effort finishing 10th.
I was particularly happy to see some old faces back from University for Christmas and enjoyed the Junior/Espoir dominated ride on Saturday. With luck we can get a few of racing with Joe Clifford at Hillingdon before you return to yourbeer swilling studies .
Rides, Races and events over Christmas/NewYear
Saturday Rides 20th and 27th December
Dave Rees will be leading a Juniors only ride on these Saturdays, aiming at around 50 miles and taking in some of the more beautiful parts of Kent. He has asked me to point out that if the weather is foul - forget it. (by foul I mean really raining hard). Leaving the Velodrome with the DP Saturday ride at 9 am returning to Cadence approx for approx 12.30/1pm. These rides are suitable for Juniors and stronger youths- you know who you are.
The ride will be on the road so normal rules apply:
DP/HHYCC & BC membership required
Helmets must be worn
Wear suitable clothing for the season- prepare for cold
Bring copious quantities of drink and some food - you will be out for sometime.
Spare inner tubes that fit
Emergency and money
Telephone number of parent or rescuer on a piece paper
If this is your first ride a signed parental consent form.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- you must be contactable and able to collect your charge should the need arise.
Herne Hill Youth Christmas Party- 20th December
The usual fun filled mucking about in the mud at the velodrome, games may include finding Mrs Rabbit’s vegetables, Santa on a bike and others too numerous to mention here. Starts at 10 am finishing approx 1pm with ample cakes, coffee and hotdogs.
Next Youth and Junior ride will be an off road trip to Bethlem on the 3rd Jan when you will have the opportunity to pre-ride the course for the race the following day.
Thursday Chain Gangs on the track
It should not surprise you these will NOT run next Thursday (25th December) nor Thursday 1st January, after all it is reasonable to expect even your dedicated coaches may have alternative commitments on these evenings.
The sessions will resume on 8th January.
Wednesday evening DP Chain Gangs
I suspect these will also not be running- however check on the DP forum.
Cross and other races
Enough about things that aren’t running, there is a host of Cross and some other stuff that will be running over the break,
Imperial Winter Series 20th December (Senors) Hillingdon
London League 21st December - Hog Hill, (All ages) promoted by the home club Lee Valley Youth so expect a good course.
London League 28th December - Foots Cray (All ages) - the traditional course, flat ‘n’ fast.
New Years Day Madison - Herne Hill -(All ages) the ultimate hangover cure for the older riders, very friendly race with the emphasis on fun.
London League 4th Jan - Bethlem, this will equal the HHYCC hosted race as the best in the calendar, can’t possibly think why…………………………..
CAYV 2nd January Gravesend
For those that don't know, the CAYV (Cycling Award for Young Volunteers) course is a really useful thing for people aged 14-18 to get involved in. It helps with things like the Duke of Edinburgh, and I'm told it can contribute to UCAS points as well. Besides which, it's really helpful to us to have extra people to call on to help out at events, and it's a good route into coaching.
Please see below for details of a course being run at CycloPark on Jan 2. I know that several of you were disappointed to miss one in August, so here's a good opportunity.
Details at : www.britishcycling.org.uk/youngvolunteers
If you want to apply: email LukeAnderson@britishcycling.org.uk and copy in Bill wxwright@msn.com.
That’s about your lot for the year, Happy Christmas to you all and thank you for your support during the year.
so in modern speak - Enjoy
