This week’s man of the match must be Joe Clifford who has finally managed to win some of ‘them there BC points’. We’ve been anticipating this success for the last few weeks and I am very confident that this is the beginning of what will soon be a torrent. Congratulations , you’ve worked damn hard over the last 2 years to get to this position, just take a few moments and think back to those early races at Hog Hill……………….. yeah, that’s how far you’ve come.
Saturday Ride 28th February - Road ride and skills session
We will be continuing the series of road rides aimed at building your strength and ability so you can race the Summer Crystal Palace series with confidence. This week we’ll tackle cornering at speed on a descent, which the observant will note must thus include a bit of climbing. Meet at the velodrome in time to leave by 9 am, and we’ll be back at Cadence around 1pm ish.
The ride will be on road so the normal rules apply:
DP/HHYCC & BC membership required
Helmets must be worn
Wear suitable clothing for the season- prepare for cold
Bring copious quantities of drink and some food
Spare inner tubes that fit
Emergency and money
Telephone number of parent or rescuer on a piece paper
If this is your first ride a signed parental consent form.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers-You’re welcome to join us however if you can’t/don’t want to join in please ensure you are contactable and able to collect your charge should the need arise.
Again -riders, treat these rides as reliability rides and this includes your bike. There is no point in spending the next 6 weeks working towards racing, paying your entry fee, busting your gut during a race and getting a mechanical in the last lap. Sh1t happens but there’s loads you can do to prevent it - nurture your bike.
I look forward to seeing as many of your as possible on Saturday
Wednesday Evening Chain Gangs with Dulwich.
This week saw the last in this years road bike on track sessions, so next week we will be running a Junior and strong Youth chain gang working with the DP adult session. A chain gang is a serious training ride, taken at speed generally working though and off for the majority of the distance.
The ride starts at at the Skoda Garage, Elmers End at 7.15pm sharp (be there by 7.10 latest) runs to West Wickham, Coney Hall, to A21, then to Green St Green, Pratts Bottom, Badgers Mounts and down Pol Hill to the roundabout where the ride turns around to return along the A21 to Bromley. Route then follows Bromley-Shortlands-Penge-Caravan Park top ‘o’ Crystal Palace at approx 9.15.
This ride is open to those who have regularly attended the DP Wednesday and/or the Thursday sessions. Note it will be dark - so lights (working) are a requirement and not an optional extra. You will be not be allowed on the ride if your lights are not working properly.
Thursday Evening Cluster Sessions
I understand this series has been extended for a couple of weeks, please refer to Jason for further details.
HHYCC AGM - 28th February -that’s this Saturday
This is a fun filled event complete with dinner, Rolla Pluza and Annual prize giving. The only downside is the actual AGM bit, but we’ll rattle through that in our normal fun filled manner. Strongly encourage many of you gentle readers to attend as several of you are in line for awards. www.hhycc.com for details
Dulwich Paragon Prize Giving - Thursday 5th March
Another chance to take home the silver, several of you are in line to receive trophies so attendance is advisable. Cost is modest £10 (I think) and includes buffet dinner and there’s nothing on telly that night so you as well come along. Libby is getting a wee bit concerned at the lack of people signing up - so visits to Rider HQ are in order.
Racing MTB Southern XC in Slough
No doubt racing through bomb holes from friendly bombs - Betjeman wasn’t entirely right about Slough and there is enough grass in this forest to graze a cow. (if you want to know what that’s about www-cdr.stanford.edu/intuition/Slough.html (it’s culture)). It’s a decent forest and although in past hasn’t been the most technical of challenges is still a good course and one to target. Race details on www.southernxc.net/ and remember this is run under BC rules so a valid race license is required. I’ll be racing in the Post Matins OAP race at 12.30.
Regards
Charlie
