I know several of you were disappointed with your results in Sunday’s Southern XC in Slough, don’t be, Southern XC’s draw riders in from a far larger area than the Gorricks or other series so it’s normal to expect to see yourself further down the results pages - this is where lap times are very useful to compare yourself against known riders.
That said, it’s not often I mention the coaches results, but serious back patting and general hero worship to Dave Rees, seen on the Podium collecting a fine bit of bling for coming 2nd in the Open.
Saturday Ride 7th March - Road ride and skills session
This week we will be working on acceleration. I’ll run a brief skills session covering the basics at the velodrome before we set off, allowing you to put these new found skills into practice during the ride.
I’m aware that we riders of several levels in the group, so subject to sufficient adult support, we’ll ride as group to the top of Beddlestead and split, the younger riders will follow the normal Saturday route back to Cadence and the older will take a longer and faster route back. With luck we’ll all meet back at the same time- 1.30 ish.
So meet at the velodrome at 8.50 am and we’ll finish by about 1.30 at Cadence.
The ride will be on road so the normal rules apply:
DP/HHYCC & BC membership required
Helmets must be worn
Wear suitable clothing for the season- prepare for cold
Bring copious quantities of drink and some food
Spare inner tubes that fit
Emergency and money
Telephone number of parent or rescuer on a piece paper
If this is your first ride a signed parental consent form.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- We need as much support as possible to keep these rides going so please do seriously consider joining us. However if you can’t/don’t want to join in please ensure you are contactable and able to collect your charge should the need arise.
Again -riders, treat these rides as reliability rides and this includes your bike. There is no point in spending the next 6 weeks working towards racing, paying your entry fee, busting your gut during a race and getting a mechanical in the last lap. Sh1t happens but there’s loads you can do to prevent it - nurture your bike.
I look forward to seeing as many of your as possible on Saturday
Sunday 8th Gorrick MTB
3rd in the Spring Series - unmissable details on www.gorrick.com. If you want to race but need a lift- speak up.
I’ll be racing in the Elderly Gentleman’s event.
Wednesday Evening Chain Gangs with Dulwich.
We welcomed a few on this ride on Wednesday, for some, a shock to the system. I and leaders of the fast group were very impressed with the strength, skill and tenacity of those youngsters riding.
Remember it is expected that you will be dropped and swept up by the last group, that’s the idea. Every week you must target to stay with group for just that little bit longer until one day you’re right up there, playing with the ‘fast’ guys. These rides are a fantastic opportunity to build on the foundation earned over the winter in the cluster sessions.
29th March All Day MTB session in Crowthorne and Swingley
Dulwich will be running their first ever all day MTB session in Swingley and Crowthorne Woods on Sunday 29th March, open to all DP members and strong HHYCC Youth members, this will be an all day ride/session exploring many of features you love soooo much as the Cork Screw, Bomb hole alley, and that nasty little gully. Full details on the DP forum - Cross and MTB.
Regards
Charlie
