Saturday 4th April - A fantastical Road based Easter Egg Hunt
The forecast is relatively good for Saturday, thus we are planning a longer ride than normal taking in the the delights of Knats Valley and points east of our normal haunts. The existence of the Easter Bunny and it’s ability to litter the countryside with chocolate eggs could be a topical point of discussion during the ride. Meet at the Velodrome at 8.50 and we’ll be back at Cafe Paradou by 1.30.
The ride is open to the normal suspects and we’ll adapt our plans to suit the riders that turn up so please don’t be put off.
As the ride will be on Road normal rules and pack drill apply:
DP or HHYCC and BC membership and wearing of helmets required
Ensure your bike is in decent condition with working gears, brakes and tyres correctly pumped up. Bring an inner tube that fits, its awfully boring having to walk home.
Bring food and drink - we’ll be out for 3 hours
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
If this is your first ride- a signed Parents Consent form
Telephone number of your Parent/Guardian/Rescuer on a piece of paper in your back pocket.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- Please ensure your rider sets off with a fully charged phone and you are able to rescue him/her if necessary.
Wednesday Evening Chain Gangs with Dulwich.
These are becoming increasingly well paced and are an excellent way to build fitness and group riding skills. Ride is open only to the stronger Youths and Juniors.
Easter Holiday Stuff at Gravesend.
BC have arranged a series of sessions at Gravesend, it’s worth checking the BC website to see what is on offer at Stratford, Hog Hill and Herne Hill.
Crystal Palace Crits - start 6th May
These start on the 6th May. Juniors and above must pre enter at Rider HQ before hand, you should note the first 4 races are apparently fully booked. There are a limited number of entrants allowed in each category, demand is strong thus races fill within hours of the entry opening. Take heart, the fervour dissipates as the the season progresses and one can usually get a ride by turning up at sign on on the day bang on time. Those keen to enter are advised to join the Twitter thing twitter.com/cpcrits as the opening of the race entries are announced there first. (It may also be on Facebook)
Youth categories and below can relax completely on this score, youth races still have good old fashioned Entry on the Line, ie turn up on the evening and race.
We will be checking all your bikes in the near the future to ensure your gearing is within BC regulations, and of course encouraging you all to give the races a go.
Afan MTB weekend - 23rd- 25th May
There will be a reasonable sized group of older stronger riders on this weekend trip. I’m fully aware that for some it falls on the eve of some of your exams, however if you’re fully prepared we will cover some serious mileage over some amazing trails. The offer is extended to all Dulwich Youth, Junior and Espoir members. Talk to Mark Hindley for further details.
Summer Evening training Sessions - Plans
Once the Palace series starts (ie early in May) we are planning to introduce 2 different evening training sessions, each aimed at riders at a differing levels.
Thursday evening - Chain Gangs following the Summer route alternating with riding the Dulwich Paragon TT series at Cudham. These gangs will be fast and running on the summer route that takes in Layhams and Pilgrims Way. They will be little toughies, so open to faster youths and juniors and above.
Wednesday Evenings - we will look into the opportunity of restarting the Off road based Lung Busting Sessions, to be held on a Wednesday evening initially at the Velodrome and when light permits at Bethlem. These will be a series of Cross/MTB endurance training exercises to take over from the track based training sessions you have enjoyed and thus be open to all keen riders aged 12 and up.
Please let me know if you would like to join either of these sessions.
