A pair of you ventured bravely out to the back of beyond, somewhere between London and somewhere well east of civilisation, to bring back honour and glory. Amelia and Titouan, you have both earned this week’s laurels, Amelia came in 3rd in the Young Ladies, Titouan racing with the Young Gentlemen, 13 seconds behind the leader, a tremendous result - pat on the back for you both.
Saturday 18th April - Road ride, more preparations for Palace
The evenings are drawing out and Palace Crit series is almost upon us, so we’ll be polishing up some cornering and acceleration skills as well completing that all important but incredible boring gear check - yawn bore yawn.
We meet as usual at 8.50 at the velodrome and will be back at Cafe Paradou ( not only is coffee cheaper, the service faster but terrace is in the sunshine………..) at about 12.30 /1 o’clock
As the ride will be on Road normal rules and pack drill apply:
DP or HHYCC and BC membership and wearing of helmets required
Ensure your bike is in decent condition with working gears, brakes and tyres correctly pumped up. Bring an inner tube that fits, its awfully boring having to walk home.
Bring food and drink - we’ll be out for 3 hours
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
If this is your first ride- a signed Parents Consent form
Telephone number of your Parent/Guardian/Rescuer on a piece of paper in your back pocket.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- Please ensure your rider sets off with a fully charged phone and you are able to rescue him/her if necessary.
Wednesday Evening Chain Gangs with Dulwich.
These are becoming increasingly well paced and is excellent way to build fitness and group riding skills. We are now riding the Summer chain gang route, so please if you have been riding with us regularly on a Saturday and are not riding this, ask us about it.
Crystal Palace Crits - start 6th May
These start on the 6th May. Juniors and above must pre enter at Rider HQ before hand, you should note the first 4 races are apparently fully booked. There are a limited number of entrants allowed in each category, demand is strong thus races fill within hours of the entry opening. Take heart, the fervour dissipates as the the season progresses and one can usually get a ride by turning up at sign on on the day bang on time. Those keen to enter are advised to join the Twitter feed thing twitter.com/cpcrits as the opening of the race entries are announced there first.
Youth categories and below can relax completely on this score, youth races still have good old fashioned Entry on the Line, ie turn up on the evening and race.
Dunwich Dynamo 4/5th July.
This is one of the better Sportive rides, fairly anarchic it leaves London Field around 7 pm and arrives at the Seaside in time for a slap up breakfast. Dave JB helpfully arranges a coach back to London (public transport isn’t up to much in them their parts) seats upon which are heavily oversubscribed. I’m not going to be able to lead a group of youths this year, however if you’re a strong youth/junior rider, member of Dulwich and want to take part sign up on the DP forum NOW.
Afan MTB weekend - 23rd- 25th May
There will be a reasonable sized group of older stronger riders on this weekend trip. I’m fully aware that for some it falls on the eve of some of your exams, however if you’re fully prepared we will cover some serious mileage over some amazing trails. The offer is extended to all Dulwich Youth, Junior and Espoir members. Talk to Mark Hindley for further details.
Regards
Charlie
