The intro to the weekly drivel is beginning to resemble a scoreboard of your achievements, last weekend Joe the elder rode his first ever road race, representing Dulwich in the Thames Valley Velo race in Oxford. By all reports he behaved himself, rode well comfortably in the bunch, narrowly avoiding crash in the final sprint. He’s confirmed to have finished in the top 20, narrowly missing out on those elusive points - chapeau my friend.
The other younger Joe (Blackmore) continued his successful MTB season, coming in 3rd place at the Southern XC at Crow Hill, again, well done.
Saturday 2nd May - Time Trial intro session
This week we will running an introduction to Time Trialing, starting with a session covering rider position, starts and general guff before heading off to do a recce of the DP Time Trial course at Cudham. Expect a guest appearance from the DP TT sec and other lesser known stars from the cycling world.
We meet as usual at 8.50 at the velodrome and will be back at Cafe Paradou at about 12.30 /1 o’clock.
This ride is suitable for both youth and Junior riders and if you don’t have a TT bike turn up on your road bike.
As the ride will be on Road normal rules and pack drill apply:
•DP or HHYCC and BC membership and wearing of helmets required
•Ensure your bike is in decent condition with working gears, brakes and tyres correctly pumped up. Bring an inner tube that fits, its awfully boring having to walk home.
•Bring food and drink - we’ll be out for 3 hours
•Wear suitable clothing for the weather
•If this is your first ride- a signed Parental Consent form
•Telephone number of your Parent/Guardian/Rescuer on a piece of paper in your back pocket.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- Please ensure your rider sets off with a fully charged phone and you are able to rescue him/her if necessary.
As from next Saturday we will be alternating the rides between road and off road, so please dust down your Cross or MTB bike in preparation.
Monday 3rd May - Road training at Cyclopark Gravesend.
This is a BC run training session is open to all youth A and B, Junior and under 23 riders, bearing in mind Monday is a bank holiday, if enough of you are interested we could lead a gentle ride down to the session and catch a train back after. Let me know. Session starts at 7pm and run till 9. Cost £5 and open to all BC members.
Crystal Palace Crits - first race 5th May (next week)
I’ve been banging on about these ad nauseum for weeks, Juniors and under 23’s who haven’t got their act together will have missed the entry for the first few weeks, the only chance to race is if you turn up at sign on bang on 6 o’clock and be very nice indeed to those doing the sign on. FYI If you haven’t a BC Race license, don’t bother to turn up.
All youth categories can only enter on the evening, you lucky people.
All racers will need a race license, or at least a confirmation from BC that you have recently brought one. see BC website for details, you can buy a license on the telephone and they will (with persuasion) email you a confirmation by return.
For full details google Crystal Palace Crits.
Wednesday Evening Chain Gangs
Bearing in mind that the Palace series has started, we’ll review whether we continue these rides until the start of Beastway later in May. Please let me know if you would to join these increasingly faster rides.
Afan MTB weekend - 23rd- 25th May
I believe there are still a few places available for this fab long weekend away in deepest South Wales. The riding is excellent and can be thoroughly recommended. See Mark Hindley for further details.
Forthcoming races and series
10th May - Mud Sweat and Gears MTB - Regional races at Hadleigh Farm.
Palace Road Crits every Tuesday evening
End May Beastway MTB (this year with added BC points) at Hog Hill on a Wednesday evening.
Regards
