Blimey you lot, loads of single figure results from the last week, and a mega podium.
Joe the younger (Blackmore) is riding like a Godlet, winning the Southern area regional MTB champs at last Sunday’s Southern XC - with a sprint finish (yes they do occasionally happen in MTB) and is now the well deserved U13 Southern Regional Champion.
Stan earned a creditable 4th in the Eastern Regional MTB at Hadleigh Farm, your coaches didn’t do so bad either, both Dave and yours truly coming in 4th in our respective races.
The results from Palace are not yet published, however, it has been reported that Joe the older (Clifford) again rode strongly, remained in the bunch and was on course for a result until he and a bush became rather more acquainted with each other than either would prefer. Patience Joe - you will get there this season. Titouan achieved a fifth place behind Hayden coming in 3rd or 4th.
Slightly further field, just had news that Arnav achieved a strong 12th racing in Cambridge, another very creditable result - chapeau to you all !
Thursday (tomorrow) Harry Must Time Trial at Cudham
The first in this season’s DP club TT series, starts at the Blacksmiths Arms, Cudham at 7 pm. Last I heard was that the roadworks in Knockholt have gone and the meeting is on, but do check the DP forum before heading out.
Saturday 16th May - Road ride
Dave will be leading a road ride out this weekend, a good spot of endurance training in the Spring sunshine. The ride will be on the faster side, so is suitable for Juniors and stronger youth riders.
Meet as usual at 8.50 at the velodrome and will be back at Cafe Paradou at about 12.30 /1 o’clock.
As the ride will be on Road normal rules and pack drill apply:
DP or HHYCC and BC membership and wearing of helmets required
Ensure your bike is in decent condition with working gears, brakes and tyres correctly pumped up. Bring an inner tube that fits, its awfully boring having to walk home.
Bring food and drink - we’ll be out for 3 hours
Wear suitable clothing for the weather
If this is your first ride- a signed Parental Consent form
Telephone number of your Parent/Guardian/Rescuer on a piece of paper in your back pocket.
Parents/Guardians/Rescuers- Please ensure your rider sets off with a fully charged phone and you are able to rescue him/her if necessary.
Crystal Palace Crits - 19th May Round 3
I’ve been banging on about these ad nauseum for weeks, Juniors and under 23’s who have missed the online entry, turn up at sign on bang on 6 o’clock and be very nice indeed to Mr Joss Barclay - bring your Race licence.
All youth categories can only enter on the evening. All racers will need a race license, or at least a confirmation from BC that you have recently brought one.
For full details google Crystal Palace Crits.
Wednesday 20th May Beastway MTB
1st in this far too short series at Hog Hill. Races start at 7pm - check the website for full details. The regular youth/Junior chain gang be suspended whilst this series is on.
Saturday 23rd May - Saturday road ride
I’m not sure whether we will be running any youth/Junior sessions, those who have been riding with us regularly are encouraged to join one of the adult Dulwich rides. Parents/Guardians and Carers should note that while the other riders will no doubt keep an eye out for your charge they cannot be held responsible for your child.
Lung Busters Off Road Enduro Training - start Thursday 28th May
Geoff will be taking the lead on these popular off road endurance sessions held at the velodrome on Thursday evenings. They are aimed at all youth riders and concentrate on building your core strength and endurance. Meet at the Velodrome at 7 pm, there may be a small charge for these sessions.
Adults - we would welcome help running these sessions, let me know if you’re available.
Dulwich Paragon - Herne Hill Unofficial Youth and Junior League
Dave and I will be running the above, rules are pretty simple, you need to let me have your results from any race or TT held from the first of May until the first race of the London Cross League Series . We will take the 5 best results and produce some sort of ranking, with a Grand Prize giving in Cafe Paradou in mid September. Preference will be given to those who ride with us on a regular basis.
Forthcoming races and series
