Having been working abroad for some years I've recently moved back permanently and need to find somewhere to service my bike(s).
I'm living in Tooting so I know there are a few places around. There's a Balfe's on Streatham High Road, De Ver cycles, a couple in Balham or going over to Cadence at Crystal Palace and no doubt others in between.
Would anyone have a recommendation please? I do my own very basic maintenance so we're talking hubs and BBs upwards, and I will happily go for quality over cost.

Welcome back to London Chris.
I know that many of us would strongly recommend Pete Owen who owns RatRace Cycles in Nunhead. His business is bike servicing to the highest degree possible, not sales, and he is a specialist in bespoke wheel-building too. Pete is also a fellow DP member and there are many of us who won't entrust our bikes to anyone else. He knows all his customers' bikes inside-out, literally. So, all in all, you should consider a quick trip to Nunhead!
(Disclosure: I do not get paid by RatRace Cycles)

If you commute into town there's a good place in Waterloo calling london bicycle workshop.
I drop my bike in there in the morning - no booking required and collect after work. Easy!
Good service and good chat! I've been using them for years.

Chris, If you're working in the City then Cycle Lab in Pitfield St is a good place to drop your bike off for servicing. The owner Kris used to be the pro mechanic at Sigma Sport and really knows his stuff.

I find Cyclopolis in Balham good (and he stocks Campag spares). Shop doesn't look like much, but the owner knows his stuff.
London Cycle Workshop on St Johns hill is also good.

I'm also based in Tooting and for most things it's worth the trek to Rat Race Cycles but for other things with local requirement I think London Cycle Workshop is very good.

Second what Charly says, in based in Morden so a bit further down from you but I agree it's worth the trek to Nunhead for anything substantial. Like Charly and Libby I also use London bicycle workshop in Waterloo who also very much know their stuff and is convenient for work in town.

I use this shop too for the kind of stuff you mention - you just take the bike in, no need to book, and they are quick and reasonable. For anything major I go to a shop near work.
