I was thinking, we should suggest to HH velodrome/VCL that we could hold a trail maintenance day at HH over the summer, to help (maybe) lay out some new trails, clear the current ones of weeds etc, and generally just help get the whole place set up for the autumn cross races. If I spoke to Bryan about this, would anyone be interested in helping out? I was thinking doing a Saturday or Sunday over the next couple of months. I was even thinking, we could see if we could have a barbeque or something to feed any volunteers. I'm sure if we publicised it, we'd get a lot of volunteers from other clubs too. Thoughts?

I'd be happy to help out if you get it organised.

OK, cool, that's a good response — I'll have a word with Bryan and see what we can do.

The nettles, grass and brambles are growing very well, and any help nettle, grass and bramble bashing is always welcome.
The easiest time to volunteer is on a Saturday morning (between 10 and 1) when the area is infested with small (and some not so small) children. We have a vast armory of mowers, strimmers, and other noisy, effective and fun toys to play with and no shortage of vegetation to bash.
Ask at the Herne Hill Youth Container (end of the yard surrounded with eager children, anxious parents etc) and some one will find you the strimmer of your dreams.
I think the HHYCC are going to arrange a 'heavy' maintenance day later in the year to try and sort out some of the muddier trails( the tracks are dry and hard now, so any hardcore/gravel put on them just ends up in the grass), suggest we do it on the same day, and have a bigger Barbecue

UPDATE
Had an email from Bryan over the weekend asking if we're all still up for helping out. Obviously I replied in the affirmative.
Would anyone like to come along on Saturdays 15 and/or the 22 to do a few hours of digging/strimming/raking etc?

Cheers Matt. I'm waiting to hear from Jason Cattermole regarding the timings. HH Youth use the off-road area on Saturday morning, but we wouldn't necesarily conflict with them, especially if we concentrate on one area at a time. As soon as I get the go ahead, I'll let you know.
