Let's do the 8.11am arrival in Dorking. Say 8.15am in the car park for those who cycle or drive down. The beauty (!!!) of the route is that if you need to cut & run, the multiple passages over Col de Leith mean you can peel off & head home at whatever time suits. As for speed Stuart, this is a steady grind as I'm no mountain goat.
Let's get a list going.

I just did a long climb in Gran Canaria (just under 2000m ascent). My personal suggestion for Etape training is that instead of trying to replicate the slopes on British roads, you could combine the following:
1. Do rides (or even repeats) up short, steep hills. That way, the gradients on the Etape will feel like nothing at all. 2. Do some flatter rides or turbo training and try to sustain a pace a little under threshold for longer periods (repeated intervals of 15 minutes). If you don't use training zones, it's a moderate (but not easy) pace you feel you could sustain for an hour. This will replicate the kind of effort you'll be doing on a long climb.
I think that's the thing that takes the most getting used to on a long climb - it's the sheer relentlessness of it; you just have to keep on pedalling or stop.

Thanks Martin. Subject to usual provisos of weather etc, if it's okay with you guys, both myself and Ben Galloway are keen on joining the Easter Monday ride.

Thanks Martin that is great. And here's a strava route made from your gpx (I find useful if you want to check where you are on the route on your phone) www.strava.com/routes/4408292

I'm going to do some beddlestead/brastead repeats this Friday if anyone would care to join? May even get the good bike out with the 53 on it for extra speed/pain

(Avoiding adding 'as long as you don't crucify me on the hills') The forecast is for full sunshine in the morning so it could be the best weather of Easter!
