As L'Etape du Tour draws ever closer I was wondering whether anyone had any good hill knowledge they'd like to share? I.e. are there any Kentish hills that you would recommend climbing for training?
I also wondered whether anyone fancied getting together for a few etape specific training rides in the run up to July?
Vive le Tour!

I'd be up for this Becca...long distance and plenty of not-too-steep hilly routes would be best...of we could just do 70 laps of Beddlestead.

I found Toys/Ide hill loops very useful when training for my first Etape, very little flat road between them and similar gradients to the climbs that year: Sort of route here: www.strava.com/activities/50091447

When I was training for a Mallorca tear up a few years ago I approached it semi scientifically. Most European climbs are 7-8%. Not brutal, but long. Conversely British climbs (SE anyway)are steep and short. So, in the spirit of specificity, I searched strava for the longest, mediocre climbs near to me. Brastead chart (this side of toys) was the closest I could find. It's about 2k, 7ish%. Obviously doing laps, you've got the down as well as up, so I just smashed up as hard as I could 5-6 times to make sure I could last on a full hour of relentless up up up. It seemed to work. If you are looking for a longer run up a decent alpine-esque run, try the black mountain in Wales. It's also a lush climb. I'm keen on starting some Saturday hill rep clubs too for March and April??

Thanks guys! I reckon Toys/Ide are better candidates than Box which is a bit too smooth and not quite steep enough. I've climbed Colombiere before and it gets pretty steep in parts - found it hard to get a rhythm, although think I climbed it from t'other side. But yeah Kat we could do Beddlestead if short on time.

I'm going to Italy this summer and I'm looking forward / am afraid there will be a fair few climbs too, so I'm interested in joining these rides too.
